In Do Penguins Have Knees?, we discussed why we can't buy macadamia nuts in their shells, and commented about why Mother Nature would surround nuts with shells that were impossible to open. In Why Do Pirates Love Parrots?, I include two letters from readers who talked about some animals that could or do crack 'em open. We put them on the blog here and here.
Yesterday, we heard from Jan, who has her own pet to brag about:
FYI, my black palm cockatoo, Luci, is able to crack open macadamia nuts. She opens a hole and scoops the meat out with her beak.
