Harvey Pekar, RIP

Cleveland has just suffered a greater loss than Lebron James. The great comics writer, Harvey Pekar, is dead at age 70. Pekar chronicled the lives of working men and women in his beloved Cleveland. Harvey wrote many things besides his best known comic, but if you want to know what makes him special, I'd start with his American Splendor, the work that inspired the movie by the same name. I got to know Harvey a little, especially during the period when he made his legendary appearances on David Letterman's show:

But Harvey was not a buffoon. He was a talented writer whose personal eccentricities harmed him more than others. His work will last.
