America's Got Talent

You're not going to find a talent contest/reality show cheesier than America's Got Talent, which makes American Idol look like Masterpiece Theater in comparison.

But a strange thing has happened this season. The show features two wonderful performers. One is Cas Haley. You'll get a sense of the cheese factor in the intro and outro of his segment, and his song choice doesn't seem to be promising (Lionel Richie's Easy), but as with Higher and Higher and Sting's Walking on the Moon he shines covering songs identified with others:

But an even more unlikely contestant is ventriloquist Terry Fator, who combines Muppet-like character work with his dummies with impersonations, singing, and comedy. I'll be disappointed if one of these two doesn't win. My money is on Fator.

Six contestants remain, and the show is on tonight at 8:00 P.M. (7:00 CST) on Fox.
