Arguably the most important oldies record station in the country, WCBS-FM, switched to the "Jack" format several years ago. Jack was a quasi-alternative format that didn't stick to a particular genre of music, and flattered its listeners with promos indicating how cool and independent you were if you listened to it.

Jack has worked in some markets, but not in New York, and CBS Radio finally relented and returned 101.1 back to its oldies format (although sadly losing doowop -- CBS-FM will play music only from the 60s, 70s, and 80s).

Like most format switches, the changeover occurred at midnight. Want to hear it? Check out FormatChange.com or go to the home page and click on your local market for air checks in your area.
