Saturday TV

Kobayahsi isn't just for hot dogs anymnore. With much less fanfare, the greatest competitive eater of all time is also a hamburger killer. Today, he competes for the 2006 World Hamburger Eating Championship (4:00 P.M., ESPN2)

I'm not that much of a country and western fan, but two of my favorites performers, Vince Gill and Alison Krauss, shine on CMT's Cross Country, a one-hour concert of duets that features both Vince Gill's band and Krauss's Union Station. It's on today at 2:30 and 11:00 P.M., and will be rerun often. The timing of this special isn't coincidental. Vince Gill has just released his magnum opus, These Days, a 4-CD set that ranges from bluegrass to rock and roll, from country ballads to jazz.

I confess that the reason I found out about Cross Country is that I saw a promo for it while watching Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders on CMT. It's one of my favorite current reality shows. The entire series so far is being rerun from 3:30 to 6:30 P.M. today, but this show is rerun incessantly. All I can say is that I'm not sure tryouts for the football team are any more brutal than auditions to get on the cheerleading team. The Cheerleaders' director, Kelli Finglass, is a breakout character -- one tough, if beautiful, cookie.
