Oscar Ramblings
Yikes, I forgot to post my Oscar picks. In all the categories, I only missed four this year. Twice, I picked Narnia for technical awards that King Kong won. I missed for Best Song (although I think if a fourth alternative, "none of the above," was available, it would have won easily). And I missed one other minor category -- Best Picture.
I did think the television was a little lucklaster last night. One indication of the lack of emotion is that the most memorable speeches were the ones most carefully prepared. Reese Witherspoon, George Clooney, and Robert Altman know what they're doing. If you can't be spontaneous, show some class and finesse.
Maybe I'm alone in the world, but if anything I'd lengthen the speeches of the winners and cut all montages (save the In Memoriam). By far the most irritating feature of this Oscars was the background music playing during the speeches of the winners. Was the idea to pressure the winners to get off the stage from the get-go? Sheesh.
