The Long Tail

Are you exasperated by the shallow selection of CDs at the record store? At all the books you can't find at your local Barnes & Noble?

In the latest issue ofWired, editor in chief Chris Anderson's article, "The Long Tail," argues that the "future of entertainment is in the millions of niche markets at the shallow end of the bitstream?" While the latest superhero movie or Britney Spears CD might be the forefront of press coverage, Anderson argues that "the long tail" of less famous creations can be more profitable. Netflix and Amazon understand and exploit this phenomenon; the Sonys and Disneys of the world don't yet get it.
